Eating berries, good for erection?

North American scientists discovered that eating berries and citrus fruits could reduce the risk of developing erectile dysfunction.

In this study published in february 2016 in the “American Journal of Clinical Nutrition“, scientists have studied foods rich in flavonoids, so whether its foods could help prevent erectile dysfunction, improving the “vascular health”.

The researchers analyzed data from 25,096 men who participated in the study. For 10 years, 35% of men reported having had first of erectile dysfunction. However, the study found that men who followed a diet rich in flavonoids anthocyanin type flavones and flavanones were less likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction.

The main sources of anthocyanins (which gives sink their “sexy” in the fruit) , flavones and flavanones are strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, grapes, red wine, apples, pears, cherries and citrus.

The researchers note that their study was observational, based on data from a large health questionnaire conducted in 2000, 2004 and 2008.

There is talk of association and not causation.

Author opinion

Consumption of foods rich in flavonoids may decrease the risk of erectile dysfunction. In all cases, it is recommended to have a healthy and balanced diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, combined with regular physical activity.

Although this study is low level of evidence, eat berries will not hurt you. Nevertheless moderation for diabetic patients is recommanded.
